Chia seed is a black tiny little seed that  grows natively in South America, but we are sure you have already heard about it because there is a lot of fuzz lately about this superfood!

“Chia” was the ancient Mayan word for “strength”. And it’s true since the seed is loaded with fiber, protein, Omega-3 fatty acids and various micronutrients.

You can spread chia seeds on top of your salads but the most popular way to try them is soaked in water or milk. That way the seeds absorb the liquid and form a gel, which is commonly known as a ‘chia pudding’. To add flavor, you can try soaking the seeds in flavoured milk, fruit juice, or adding spices such as cinnamon, ginger or a little honey.

Chia Seed Pudding

  • 1.5 cups unsweetened almond milk
  • 6 Tablespoons chia seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 Tablespoon honey
  • 1/4-1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • roasted almonds and coconut, for topping (optional)

Chocolate chia pudding

  • 1/4 cup chia seeds
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon instant coffee
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla
  • a few grains of salt
  • 1 cup milk
